Admission to B.Tech. & Dual Degree Programmes 2015

Admission Brochure with important dates shall be published by 30th April, 2015.
IIST announces admission to the following programmes for the academic year 2015-16, to eligible Indian citizens:
- 4-Year B.Tech Programme in Aerospace Engineering (60 Seats)
- 4-Year B.Tech Programme in Avionics (60 Seats)
- 5-Year Dual Degree (B.Tech and M.S. / M.Tech.) Programme (20 Seats)
Note :
The 5-year Dual Degree programme leads to B.Tech degree in Engineering Physics and any of the following Post-Graduate degree specializations :
- M.S. in Solid State Physics
- M.S. in Astronomy & Astrophysics
- M.S. in Earth System Science and
- M.Tech. in Optical Engineering.
Candidates who are desirous in applying to the above academic programmes in IIST must appear for the Joint Entrance Examination (Main)-2015 conducted by Central Board of Secondary Education (CBSE), New Delhi and Joint Entrance Examination (Advanced)-2015 conducted by IITs. They should secure the minimum prescribed category-wise marks in JEE (Advanced)-2015 as given below :

General Candidates (GEN) :
At least 20% marks in aggregate and at least 5% marks in each of the three subjects (Physics Chemistry and Mathematics). -
Other Backward Community – Non Creamy Layer (OBC-NCL) Candidates :
At least 18% marks in aggregate and at least 4.5% marks in each of the three subjects (Physics Chemistry and Mathematics). -
Scheduled Caste (SC), Scheduled Tribe (ST) & Persons with Disabilities (PD) Candidates :
At least 10% marks in aggregate and at least 2.5% marks in each of the three subjects (Physics Chemistry and Mathematics).
In JEE-(Advanced)-2015, the maximum mark for each subject is 120 and the aggregate is 360. Accordingly, the MINIMUM (cut-off) MARKS for each subject and the aggregate, which should be secured for eligibility to apply for B.Tech. / Dual degree admission in IIST is tabulated below :

Citizenship :
Only Indian citizens are eligible to apply for admission in IIST.Date of Birth :
Candidates belonging to General category (GEN) and Other Backward Classes (OBC) categories must have been born on or after October 1, 1990. Candidates belonging to Scheduled Caste (SC), Scheduled Tribes (ST) and Persons with Disabilities (PD) categories must have born on or after October 1, 1985. The date of birth as recorded in the high school/first Board /or its equivalent will be accepted. If the certificate does not mention the date of birth, candidate must submit an authenticated document from competent authority indicating the date of birth at the time of Counselling.Qualifying Examination (10+2 or Equivalent) :
Candidates seeking admission to IIST should have passed their Qualifying Examination, with Physics, Chemistry and Mathematics as subjects of the curriculum Candidates belonging to GEN and OBC categories must secure an aggregate of at least 70% marks in Physics, Chemistry and Mathematics (PCM) in the qualifying examination and those belonging to SC/ST/PD should have an aggregate of at least 60% marks in PCM subjects in the qualifying examination.The qualifying examination should be any of the following :
- The final examination of the 10+2 system, conducted by any recognized Central/State Board, such as Central Board of Secondary Education (CBSE), New Delhi; Council for Indian School Certificate Examination (ISCE), New Delhi, etc.
- Intermediate or two-year Pre-University examination conducted by a recognized Board/University.
- Final examination of the two-year course of the Joint Services Wing of the National Defence Academy.
- Vocational Higher Secondary Examination.
- Senior Secondary School Examination conducted by the National Institute of Open Schooling with a minimum of five subjects.
- Any Public School/Board/University examination in India or in any foreign country recognized as equivalent to the 10+2 system by the Association of Indian Universities (AIU).
- General Certificate Education (GCE) examination (London / Cambridge /Sri Lanka) at the Advanced (A) level.
- High School Certificate Examination of the Cambridge University or International Baccalaureate Diploma of the International Baccalaureate Office, Geneva.
- In case the relevant qualifying examination is not a public examination, the candidate must have passed at least one public (Board or Pre-University) examination at an earlier level.
Marks scored in JEE(Advanced)-2015 Examination :
Candidates who are desirous to join B.Tech. and Dual degree Programmes in IIST must appear for the Joint Entrance Examination (Main)-2015 conducted by Central Board of Secondary Education (CBSE), New Delhi to qualify themselves to appear for Joint Entrance Examination (Advanced)-2015 conducted by IITs and secure the minimum prescribed category-wise marks in JEE (Advanced)-2015 as given below :-

IMPORTANT :
As per the JEE(Advanced)-2015 information brochure, the candidates can view the web display of their ORS answer sheets on 13th July 2015. The candidates are advised to calculate/verify their marks before online registration for admission to IIST.
As per the reservation policy of Government of India applicable to Central Educational Institutions (CEI), candidates belonging to certain categories are admitted to seats reserved for them based on relaxed criteria. These categories and the corresponding percentage of reservation are as given below :
- Scheduled Castes (SC) : 15%
- Scheduled Tribes (ST) : 7.5%
- Other Backward Classes (OBC) belonging to Non-Creamy Layer (NCL) : 27%
- Physically Disabled (PD) : 3% (Horizontal Reservation)
IIST provides Financial Assistance Package funded by Department of Space (DOS), Government of India for students admitted to the B.Tech. and the Dual degree programme, every semester, to meet the expenses of education viz. Tuition Fee, Students Amenity Fee, Hostel charges including dining, Establishment charges and Medical cover. An additional Book Allowance of Rs. 3000/- is also provided to each student for every semester.
In the event a student, while studying in IIST, fails to secure a minimum Grade Point Average (GPA) of 7.5 out of 10 point scale, in any semester, the Student will not be paid full Assistanceship for the succeeding semester. In such cases, the student will have to remit the pre-notified Fee (Tuition Fee, students’ amenity fee, Hostel charges including dining, establishment charges and medical coverage to students) for the particular semester to continue the studies.
